Stamina-testing cycle challenge

Previously the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity, we re-launched as The Children’s Surgery Foundation in 2019 to reflect the national scope of our work today. The story below is from our days as the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.

On a sunny August day a fantastic team from CBRE (the facilities manager for Chelsea Children’s Hospital) took on their fourth consecutive cycling challenge to raise funds for our charity. Previous epic endeavours have included an arduous London to Paris bike ride and a non-stop trip from John O’ Groats to Land’s End.

This year’s event, Track 35, took place on the world-renowned Top Gear track at Dunsfold Aerodrome. This ultimate in biking challenges saw our team of eight riders racing on this famous circuit for 77 continuous laps to achieve a huge 135 miles to celebrate our charity’s 35th year. Our good-humoured cyclists took it on in Top Gear fashion by setting themselves track challenges including top speed, fastest lap and the obligatory ‘Star on a reasonably priced bike’.

We are so grateful to all our riders for successfully undertaking this thigh-zapping, stamina-testing cycling marathon for us. Special thanks to Andy Glasspool, who came back from a bad cycling injury and organised the event. Guys, we are so grateful for your support!
