Previously the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity, we re-launched as The Children’s Surgery Foundation in 2019 to reflect the national scope of our work today. The story below is from our days as the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.
Today is Epilepsy Awareness Day. Children at Chelsea Children’s Hospital with suspected or complex epilepsy are now being diagnosed earlier and more accurately thanks to the video EEG telemetry camera funded by Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.
“This technology enables us to safely monitor a child’s brainwaves without the need for sedation or anaesthetic, and allows us to record their behaviour and movement at the same time, whilst awake or asleep," explained Maria Kinali, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist.
“This means we can carry out a thorough analysis of their brain activity, leading to a more reliable diagnosis. The service is provided in a calm and child-friendly environment where we aim to give children and their families a timely and definitive diagnosis for neurological conditions – such as epilepsy.”
