It's World Cancer Day

04 Feb Archive Harriet and Alfie

Previously the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity, we re-launched as The Children’s Surgery Foundation in 2019 to reflect the national scope of our work today. The story below is from our days as the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.

It's World Cancer Day today. After three years of treatment for leukaemia at Chelsea Children's Hospital, little Alfie, now 6, is healthy and well.

"He’s doing brilliantly," says mum Harriet. "We have little wobbles sometimes; it’s hard not to worry! But he’s in super shape. Current obsessions are beat boxing and African wild dogs (I know!)."

In the UK, cancer is the most common cause of death in children aged 1 to 14 years, accounting for around one-fifth of deaths in this age group.
