Parent beds for CHDU

Previously the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity, we re-launched as The Children’s Surgery Foundation in 2019 to reflect the national scope of our work today. The story below is from our days as the Chelsea Children’s Hospital Charity.

We've just funded new parent beds for our Children's High Dependency Unit. "The huge beds we had before had no wheels and weighed a ton," says Becky Peto, Clinical Nurse Educator. "These new ones are going to save our backs! They take up less room in our bed space and convert to chairs during the day, so it's safer if we need to reach the child quickly in an emergency. And their orange colour matches our ward colour scheme! They have gone down a treat, thank you!"

These beds were mainly funded by donations from families whose children have been cared for in the hospital, including Jo Knowles and her son William who were in HDU for several months. "I’m so pleased that our donation has helped fund the chairs," says Jo. "I have just seen a picture of them and they look brilliant! Anything that helps make the stay more comfortable for parents and better for nurses is great and money well spent."
